Focus and Scope

Journal of Indonesian Religious focuses on the academic study of religion, religious life, and Islamic Religious Education. The journal welcomes original research articles, review articles, and conceptual studies that contribute to the scholarly understanding of religious thought, practices, traditions, and contemporary religious phenomena.

The journal’s scope includes, but is not limited to:

• Islamic Religious Thought and Traditions, including Islamic thought, religious traditions, interpretation, theology, philosophy of religion, and contemporary developments in religious thought.
• Religious Identity, Spirituality, and Religiosity, including religious identity, spiritual experiences, religious attitudes, religiosity, and the formation of religious values.
• Religious Diversity and Interfaith Relations, including religious tolerance, interfaith dialogue, religious harmony, diversity, and relations among religious communities.
• Religion and Society, including the relationship between religion and social life, religious practices, religious communities, religion and culture, and contemporary religious phenomena.
• Islamic Religious Education, including Islamic Religious Education curriculum, teaching and learning, pedagogical approaches, educational strategies, teacher competence, student development, and Islamic educational institutions.
• Religious Literacy and Islamic Values in Education, including religious literacy, Islamic character education, moral education, integration of Islamic values, and the development of students’ religious competencies.
• Contemporary Issues in Religion and Islamic Education, including digital religion, technology in Islamic Religious Education, religious moderation, multiculturalism, inclusivity, and emerging challenges in religious education.

The journal encourages interdisciplinary studies using relevant perspectives from religious studies, theology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, history, education, and culture, provided that the research has a clear and substantive connection to religion or Islamic Religious Education.

Manuscripts that focus exclusively on general education, social, cultural, or other disciplinary issues without a clear connection to religion or Islamic Religious Education are outside the scope of the journal.
