Peer Review Process
The Indonesian Journal of Social Issues (IJOSIM) applies a rigorous and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, relevance, and academic integrity of every manuscript submitted for publication. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by qualified reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject matter of the manuscript.
1. Initial Manuscript Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript is first screened by the editorial team to determine whether it meets the journal's scope, author guidelines, formatting requirements, and basic standards of academic writing. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected before peer review.
2. Plagiarism and Originality Check
Manuscripts are checked for plagiarism and substantial similarity with previously published works. The editorial team may use appropriate plagiarism-detection software to assess the originality of submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts containing unacceptable levels of similarity may be rejected or returned to the authors for clarification and revision.
3. Reviewer Assignment
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to qualified independent reviewers who have appropriate expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers are selected based on their academic competence, research experience, and subject-matter expertise.
4. Double-Blind Peer Review
IJOSIM uses a double-blind peer review system, in which the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers and the identities of the reviewers are concealed from the authors. This process is intended to promote objective, fair, and impartial evaluation of manuscripts.
5. Review Evaluation
Reviewers assess manuscripts based on several criteria, including:
-
Relevance to the focus and scope of IJOSIM.
-
Originality and contribution to the field.
-
Clarity of the research objectives and research questions.
-
Appropriateness of the theoretical framework and methodology.
-
Accuracy and adequacy of data analysis.
-
Quality and coherence of discussion and interpretation.
-
Relevance and consistency of conclusions.
-
Quality and adequacy of references.
-
Clarity, organization, and academic quality of the manuscript.
-
Compliance with research ethics and academic integrity standards.
6. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor makes the final editorial decision. Possible decisions include:
-
Accept — the manuscript is accepted for publication without major revisions.
-
Minor Revision — the manuscript requires limited revisions before publication.
-
Major Revision — substantial revisions are required and the revised manuscript may be returned to reviewers for further evaluation.
-
Reject — the manuscript does not meet the journal's academic, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements.
7. Revision Process
When revisions are required, authors must submit a revised manuscript within the specified period and provide a clear response to the reviewers' comments. Revised manuscripts may be reviewed again to determine whether the authors have adequately addressed the reviewers' recommendations.
8. Final Decision and Publication
After the manuscript has successfully completed the review and revision process, the editorial team conducts a final check before publication. Accepted manuscripts are then prepared for publication in accordance with the journal's publication schedule and editorial standards.
9. Confidentiality and Ethical Conduct
All manuscripts submitted to IJOSIM are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts and must not use unpublished information for personal or professional purposes. Reviewers are also expected to disclose any potential conflict of interest and decline the review when they are unable to provide an impartial assessment.
The Indonesian Journal of Social Issues (IJOSIM) is committed to maintaining a fair, objective, confidential, and academically rigorous peer review process to ensure the quality and integrity of the research it publishes.
